IS DESIRE A REQUIREMENT FOR HAPPINESS?

IS DESIRE A REQUIREMENT FOR HAPPINESS?

Do you know your heart’s desire upfront and intimately?

Is there a talent that you have always known you possessed but neglected to explore and develop to its fullest degree because of the noise your head has told you about not being enough and various other excuses?

DeepDive: Have you been satisfied spending your life at possibly a “C” average instead of working a little bit harder to get an “A”?

JustToday: Are you out there taking flight daily and flying higher, further, faster, than the day before and are you totally committed to living your life with enthusiasm, vitality, and joy?

Or, are you satisfied being a resident of Victimville, an overcrowded dead-end ghetto of regret?

Here’s an example of what I mean. At the time this situation occurred it wasn’t a particularly significant experience but as I’ve looked back on it later in life, it has been a key lesson for me. In high school, whenever I had an opportunity in a particular class to do an extra paper that would make a difference between getting an ‘A’ or a ‘B’ I would always settle for the ‘B’ because at that time I thought a B was good enough. I didn’t assess that there would be any long-lasting effect in my future so why deal putting in the extra work. (And in truth I was way too focused in the social aspects of school, i.e..  cheerleader, Yearbook editor, after school sports, Friday dances, boyfriends galore, etc).

However had I a glimmer of understanding that although the difference between getting an ‘A’ or a ‘B’ seemed relatively insignificant at the time, my decision to settle was the beginning of a pattern of settling that would be more and more difficult to overcome as I grew older.

As I grew older, the stakes got higher and there were things I found I was settling for that suddenly did become significant in the grand scheme of my life and I was very challenged how to see them through.
There comes a point in every person’s life when they have to decide whether they are going to live their life in a fabulous way that they never thought possible or will they concede to the couch.

Once I stood up for myself I have never looked back.  Yet this too doesn’t come without a lot of self-talk and geez, is it busy in that mind of mine!!

Three last questions which can be a first in a new way of doing your life:

  1. What is it you have settled for in your life?

  2. What is your next choice going to be?

  3. If not now, when?
